The IGC looks at everyday solutions for general workplace health and safety issues. When you have completed the qualification, you will be able to:

  • Justify the need for health and safety improvements;
  • Advice on duties for health and safety in the workplace;

ACHIEVING THE QUALIFICATION

The IG has two-unit assessments (see ‘Qualification key features’ for details on the assessments and the pass standards); you must achieve a ‘Pass’ in each unit to be awarded the qualification.
You will have five years to complete your qualification. The five-year period starts from the date you passed your first successful unit (we call this the ‘declaration date’). Any unit that is five or more years old will not count towards the qualification and you will need to retake this/these unit(s) if you still want to complete the qualification

INTRODUCTION

This qualification aims to provide holders with the knowledge and understanding of process safety management to ensure that they can contribute to the effective management of process safety risks

TARGET AUDIENCE

The NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management is suitable for supervisors, newly appointed managers, junior managers, safety representatives, and newly qualified health and safety advisors within the process industries, both inside and outside the UK. The qualification is designed to provide a sound breadth of knowledge and understanding that enables qualification holders to contribute to the management of process safety risks. This qualification builds on the understanding already gained by studying the NEBOSH National or International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

PREREQUISITE /ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

NEBOSH does not set specific formal entry requirements for this qualification. However, it should be noted that the achievement of either the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (NGC) or International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (IGC) (or equivalent) prior to undertaking the NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management course is recommended. This qualification is not designed to replace knowledge and understanding of general health and safety, gained as part of the NGC or IGC.

ASSESSMENT

The assessments focus on the application of knowledge to help you prepare for environmental management tasks faced in the workplace.

The qualification is broken down into two units, which are assessed in the following ways:

  1. Unit EMC 1:Environmental management

Examination (to be downloaded, completed, and submitted in 24 hours)

Learners will be required to review a real-life scenario and answer theoretical and practical questions on environmental management.

  1. Unit EMC2: Assessing environmental aspects and associated impacts.

Practical Assessment

Learners will be required to assess environmental aspects and impacts in their chosen workplace.

*Both assessments will be marked by an external examiner appointed by NEBOSH.

COURSE BENEFITS/PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

Workers with the Award in Health and Safety at Work qualification will benefit organizations who are seeking to implement or maintain a health and safety management system by giving workers awareness of common workplace hazards. COURSE DURATION

This qualification has a minimum of 18 taught hours, two hours of self-study, and a recommendation of three hours for the assessment.

​ASSESSMENT

After completing the course, you will be asked to complete a workplace health and safety review which:​

  • Considers how health and safety is managed, and how it could be done better
  • Identifies health and safety issues, how they are controlled and if the risk can be reduced
  • Select the most important issue for improvement

This assessment is designed to test your ability to put into practice what you have learned and, as it is carried out in the workplace, can add instant value to your organization.

​Once you have achieved a pass, a qualification parchment will be issued within 20 working days of the confirmation of the successful unit.

FURTHER STUDY

NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.

RESITTING EXAMINATIONS

If a candidate’s performance in a unit is lower than a pass, the candidate may register to re-sit the unit if they so wish.

NEBOSH and Great Britain’s Health and Safety Regulator, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), have joined forces to develop a one-day qualification that shows how non-complex incidents can be investigated effectively. By learning lessons and making improvements, organizations can avoid similar incidents occurring in the future.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This qualification is for anyone who wants to carry out incident investigations effectively. Employers, supervisors, SHE champions, unions, and safety representatives will benefit.

PREREQUISITE/ ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There are no entry requirements for this qualification, but it is recommended that learners should already have an underpinning knowledge of health and safety issues, and many will have gained another NEBOSH qualification. It is also important that learners have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.

NEBOSH HSE Introduction to Incident Investigation covers the following topics:

  • Moral, legal and financial arguments for investigations
  • Human and organizational factors that can contribute to an incident
  • The process for investigating the incident

Positive interview strategies and the barriers to successful interviews

ASSESSMENT

A practical assessment is completed at the end of the course. You will be provided with a pack of evidence and shown a video of three witness interviews. You will be asked to review the evidence, evaluate each interview and produce an action plan that will help prevent a recurrence of an incident.

PASSING MARK

Assessment will be marked by the course tutor. You will receive a ‘Pass’ or ‘Refer’ for each part of your assessment.

INTRODUCTION

The NEBOSH HSE Award in Managing Risks and Risk Assessment at Work is a one-day, introductory-level qualification jointly developed with the health and safety regulator for Great Britain, the Health and Safety Executive. It is structured around the Health and Safety Executive’s approach to controlling the risks caused by workplace hazards.

​Develop straightforward, practical health and safety risk management skills so you can go beyond risk assessment, to effectively control the health and safety risks caused by hazards in your workplace.

​TARGET AUDIENCE

The NEBOSH HSE Award in Managing Risks and Risk Assessment at Work is ideal for anyone involved in managing workplace health and safety risks including those who undertake risk assessments. The content will be particularly useful to employers, managers, supervisors, union representatives, SHE champions and health and safety representatives.

COURSE BENEFITS AND PROGRESSION OPPORTUNITIES

  • Identify hazards and be aware of some of the resources that can help
  • Assess risks in low to medium risk premises using simple HSE tools

LENGTH OF THE COURSE

This one-day qualification has a minimum of six hours of study with a recommendation of one hour for the assessment, which means it can be completed in just one day.

​ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

It is important that learners have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.

ASSESSMENT

A practical assessment is completed at the end of this one-day qualification. You will be asked to watch a video of a real workplace and complete a risk assessment to identify how you would manage and prioritize the risks present.

ASSESSMENT RESULTS

You will receive your results within 24 working days of sitting the assessments. Once you have achieved a pass a qualification parchment will be issued. This is normally within 40 working days of the confirmation of the successful unit.
